Onebox vs MightyCall
Onebox is a virtual PBX service owned and operated by j2 Global Communications, a technology company founded in 1995 and based in Hollywood, CA.
They offer 2 general plans: OneBox Receptionist, designed for small business, and OneBox Executive, designed for solo entrepreneurs. OneBox Receptionist scales in price from $49.95 to $199.95, while OneBox Executive scales from $16.95 to $29.95.
OneBox Executive is the basics of virtual telephony, and lacks features such as an auto-attendant and call queues. The plan offers only 1 virtual number and 1 extension, which may do the job for someone working alone, but limits cheap options small companies of 2-5 people would find most convenient.
The real problem with these plans are the number of minutes included: for $16.95 you get 100 minutes, and for $19.95 you get 400 minutes. Frankly speaking, those amounts assume someone barely uses their phone at all, but why would you pay anything in that case? What freelancer or entrepreneur speaks on the phone for an average of less than 14 minutes a day?
MightyCall’s $19.99 Basic plan comes with 2 phone numbers, unlimited extensions, and 1,000 talk minutes a month. The value here is clearly and vastly superior.

OneBox Receptionist suffers from the same problems as OneBox Executive, but magnified because the prices are so high. For $49.95, you get 2,000 minutes and 4 extensions; for $79.95, you get 3,000 minutes and 10 extensions; for $99.95, you get 4,000 minutes and 15 extensions.
MightyCall’s $49.99 Standard plan offers 5,000 minutes and unlimited extensions. More minutes, more flexibility, and more features at a lower cost. Key features that come with your MightyCall plan such as call recording, voicemail-to-text transcriptions, and conference calls each carry an additional charge for every OneBox plan, except the mammoth $199.95 plan, which doesn’t have a price equivalent in the entire industry.
Additionally, MightyCall has unlimited texting on all its plans (OneBox uses pay-as-you-go texting), softphone capabilities (being able to make calls from your desktop), and both Social Media & website integration for small businesses. OneBox doesn’t have any of those things.

No matter which way you spin it, OneBox is nowhere near the value of MightyCall, or even most of the companies in the VOIP market. Don’t waste time sweating the amount of minutes you’re using—make the switch today and get everything your business needs to succeed.
If you already have a virtual phone number, we can port it in for free so you can keep using it.
